Eat the Rainbow - Color Red

Consuming veggies and fruits that are a reddish color can provide you with a variety of nutrients. Red fruits and vegetables, such as raspberries, cranberries, tomatoes, guava, watermelon, red cabbage, kidney beans, cherries, strawberries and beets, are likely to be rich in Vitamin C, folate, and antioxidants, such as lycopene and anthocyanins. These items can have many health benefits including to help fight heart disease, prostate cancer, reduce the risk for stroke, reduced the risk of macular degeneration, reduces damaging free radicals, and promotes memory function and urinary health. Try mixing some red into your diet with the following tips: -Add some red berries to your cereal or oatmeal in the morning -Pair a side salad with your lunch that can encompass many red veggies including tomatoes, beets, and red cabbage - Try making a coleslaw with red cabbage instead of the usual green - Make a vegetarian chili with red kidney beans and tomatoes, low fat and packed with protein!
