Clean Eating: Myths

Clean Eating Myths Debunked Myth #1: Juice Cleanses Help You Detox: When you choose juice over whole fruits and vegetables, you're missing out on fiber--a nutrient that helps your body digest food more slowly. By drinking juice only for several days, you're body is losing out of a lot of other needed nutrients. You are also taking in a lot of sugars (even when you're having fruits with lower sugar content) without fiber, fat, or protein to slow it down in your system. Myth #2: You must follow the low-carb and high protein combination We have all heard of the Carb free diet and that carbs lead to weight gain. However, cutting carbs out of your diet can make you susceptible to headaches, fatigue, & diarrhea. Combining that with a high-protein diet can increase your cholesterol levels and place an extra strain on your kidneys. Instead of completely eliminating carbs from your diet, cut out refined carbs & sugar and substitute whole grain breads, brown rice, quinoa, fruits and veggies. Myth #3: You must say goodbye to calories Just because you are counting calories doesn’t mean you are eating clean. It only means that you have cut down your calorie intake and may be depriving yourself of essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Instead of excessively cutting back on calories, then focus on the quality of food that you are eating.
