Salty Snack Attack
Snacking can be a difficult challenge to overcome. A lot of people are plagued with late night cravings; whether it is due to hunger, stress, boredom, or a number of other reasons. Here are some tips for some healthier options to try when you are craving a salty snack:
Try having some pretzels in place of grabbing a bag of salty potato chips. They are lower in fat, but still provide a salty taste to subside that craving. You can have them with a wedge of laughing cow cheese. This will provide some added protein while only increasing the snack by 35 calories (varies slightly per flavor). Substitute your typical salty treat with a serving of butter-free popcorn. Not only will the crunch be satisfying, but popcorn is a good source of fiber which will help you feel full longer. Eat a handful of pistachios, these are full of protein and Omega 3 fatty acids. A good tip is to get the shelled pistachios, having to take the time to remove the shell will help you be aware of how much your eating and help prevent mindless snacking. Olives are a naturally salty food items. Have a few kalamata olives to curve that salt craving. They contain healthy fats and several antioxidants.
