Cooking at home!

We have talked many times about today’s busy lifestyle.  EVERY minute of EVERY day seems to be accounted for.  With the convenience of fast foods and so many ready to eat options it is hard to bypass those with today’s hectic lifestyle.  Unfortunately the ready to eat options often have more added fats and sodium.  When making meals at home we can control the amounts of these items we are putting in our foods.  Here are some tips we use: ·        Plan ahead and make meals in advance that can just be put in the oven or slow cooker if you know you have an busy day.  Soup can be frozen in muffin tins and then placed in plastic bags for perfectly portioned lunches or dinners, cooking a whole chicken or turkey then using leftovers for sandwiches or casseroles for the week is also a great option.  Keep an eye on our blog for other make ahead meal ideas. ·        Plan your veggies.  Decide veggies for every night of the week then if life gets too hectic and you end up ordering that pizza last minute at least you have a veggie in the fridge to pair with it. ·        Remember no added salt canned veggies and frozen veggies are also a good option to keep on hand. ·        Have a family?  Choose one night a week to get them involved and cut fresh veggies up and leave them in the crisper for easy to access snacks and sides for dinners.  Have your own tips we would love to hear them...
